How I Healed IBS, Hormonal Imbalance & Acne Naturally After Pregnancy
After my fourth baby, I kept telling myself I just needed time.
More sleep.
More discipline.
More motivation.
But months kept passing and I didn’t feel like myself anymore.
I wasn’t just tired, I felt off in my own body.
My digestion was unpredictable. Some days I’d wake up bloated before I even ate anything. I dealt with IBS symptoms almost daily and had no idea what would trigger them. My cycles stretched to over 40 painful days, my mood felt all over the place, and the brain fog made simple decisions feel overwhelming.
At the same time, my skin broke out again like I was a teenager, even though I was doing everything “right.”
I tried the usual solutions:
eat cleaner
exercise harder
cut calories
drink more coffee
Nothing actually fixed it.
Then I realized it wasn’t just me
My husband was dealing with his own issues — psoriasis patches, excess dandruff, stomach discomfort, and stubborn acne that never fully cleared no matter what products he tried.
Then came the moment that really changed things.
Our daughter started complaining about ankle pain, and not long after that we noticed psoriasis starting to show up on her skin too.
That’s when I stopped seeing these as random problems.
It was a pattern across our whole family.
We were eating what most busy families eat — quick foods, convenient snacks, “healthy” packaged options, and I started wondering if our bodies were reacting instead of malfunctioning.
Going back to basics
I decided to stop chasing convenience and start learning how the body actually works.
I studied holistic nutrition and wellness and began with a simple elimination approach. We removed common triggers (even veggies) and focused on real, nutrient-dense foods while supporting gut and hormone health.
Not overnight, but steadily, things began changing.
The first change: digestion
Within a week, my bloating decreased, and IBS episodes became less frequent. I lost 7lbs.
That was the first sign my body wasn’t broken, it was reacting.
The second change: hormones
My cycles shortened and became more predictable. The painful, drawn-out hormonal swings eased, and my mood stopped feeling like it was controlled by the day of the month. 42 days down to 28!!
The third change: mental clarity
The brain fog lifted gradually.
I could focus longer.
I reacted less emotionally.
I felt present again.
Then the physical symptoms improved
My acne cleared.
My husband’s skin calmed down.
His stomach issues improved.
Our daughter’s symptoms settled.
What I learned through all of this
Most of what we accept as “normal” — constant fatigue, mood swings, digestive issues, stubborn skin problems - are often signals.
The body is trying to communicate, not fight us.
When we stopped constantly irritating it and started supporting it, it responded.
Healing didn’t come from one product or one perfect diet.
It came from:
consistent meals
removing triggers
supporting the gut
and rebuilding nutrient stores
Why I share this
I know how overwhelming it feels when multiple family members are struggling and you don’t know where to start.
You don’t need perfection.
You need direction.
Small consistent changes compound in ways you can’t see at first, until one day you realize you feel like yourself again.
In my next posts, I’ll walk through exactly how I started and what we actually ate, because clarity is what makes change sustainable.
Before an elimination diet and getting to root cause healing, and after!
ROOT CAUSE HEALING
For a long time, we thought what we were dealing with was just normal.
After my fourth baby, my body didn’t bounce back the way it had before. I was dealing with IBS almost daily, constant brain fog, hormonal mood swings, my weight didn’t fall off like I thought ot should, and cycles that stretched to 40+ painful days. My skin was breaking out again like I was a teenager, and I never felt fully clear or rested, no matter how much sleep I got.
At the same time, my husband was struggling with psoriasis, excess dandruff, stomach issues, and stubborn acne that nothing seemed to fix.
Then I noticed something that really stopped me in my tracks.
Our daughter started complaining about ankle pain, and not long after that, we began seeing psoriasis show up on her skin too.
That was the moment I knew this wasn’t random — it was a pattern.
We were eating what most families eat… the standard American diet, quick convenience foods, “healthy” snacks, and processed options that fit into busy life. I started questioning if what we were putting in and on our bodies was affecting all of us more than we realized.
So I went all in on learning.
I studied holistic nutrition and wellness, dug into ingredient labels, and we began with a simple elimination approach, removing common triggers and focusing on real, nutrient-dense foods while supporting gut and hormone health.
Not overnight, but steadily, things changed.
My digestion calmed down.
My cycles normalized, and the brain fog lifted.
Our acne cleared.
I lost 34lbs
My husband’s skin improved, and his stomach issues eased.
Our daughter’s symptoms settled and only flares with certain foods.
What I learned through that season is that many symptoms we accept as “normal” are often signals. When you support the body instead of constantly fighting it, it responds.
That experience is what led me to share what I’ve learned, because I know how overwhelming it feels when your whole family is dealing with issues and you don’t know where to start.
Healing didn’t come from one product or one perfect diet.
It came from understanding root causes and making simple changes that not everyone knows about.
WELLNESS BEGINS WITH YOU
It all begins with an idea.
It all starts with you. Your mindset matters! Maybe you want to lose a few pounds. Maybe you want to be able to wrestle your kids without injuring yourself. Or maybe you have a craving for a healthier lifestyle. Whatever it is, I’m here to help you on your journey because I’ve been there.
Losing weight can be tough, requiring discipline and changes in habits. It means eating differently and exercising regularly, which isn't always easy.
But it's important because carrying extra weight can lead to serious health problems like heart disease and diabetes, and it can affect how we feel about ourselves.
Even though it's hard, the benefits of losing weight, like better health and feeling better about ourselves, are worth it in the end. The temporary discomfort is nothing compared to the long-term benefits of being healthier and happier.
Simple swaps
It all begins with an idea.
When I first started my journey to eating healthier, I started with small swaps and cut out most processed foods. Start by making small, gradual changes to your diet rather than trying to overhaul everything at once. For example instead of buying a thing of Oreos and eating a whole row in one sitting, buy a container of strawberries and pair it with some dark chocolate. This approach is more sustainable and can help you adjust to the taste and texture of whole foods. After a while you begin to see a change in your body, for me it was feeling bloated all the time, the unnecessary gas, and bad acne. Eating less processed foods helped all of these things go away.
Reduce your intake of sugary snacks, desserts, and beverages. Instead, satisfy your sweet tooth with fresh fruits or small portions of naturally sweet treats like dried fruit or dark chocolate. When purchasing packaged foods, read the ingredient list and choose options with fewer additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. Look for products with recognizable, whole food ingredients.
Prepare meals at home using fresh, whole ingredients whenever possible. Cooking from scratch gives you more control over what goes into your food and allows you to customize recipes to suit your taste preferences and dietary needs. Plan your meals and snacks for the week ahead of time, and make a grocery list with whole food ingredients. Having a plan in place can help you avoid reaching for processed convenience foods when you're short on time or energy. This is where meal planning and prepping comes into play, I have seen the most success in my diet and overall health by having a plan for what to buy and what I am making that week.
Keep your kitchen stocked with whole food staples. Having these ingredients on hand makes it easier to whip up nutritious meals and snacks at home. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and limit sugary beverages like soda, fruit juice, and sweetened teas. Water is essential for overall health and can help you stay hydrated and satisfied between meals. Bone broth of any kind is always a better choice to have on hand for when you want something that isn’t water.
